Coveney to face further questions today over proposed Zappone job

The Taoiseach has appealed for balance and perspective on the issue.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs will face further questions today over the proposed appointment of Katherine Zappone to a UN job in New York.

Simon Coveney will reappear before an Oireactas committee, after members last week raised serious concerns about inconsistencies in his statement.

Yesterday his department released texts showing he offered Ms Zappone the special envoy role four months before it was agreed by Cabinet.

The Taoiseach has appealed for balance and perspective on the issue, but Gary Gannon, Social Democrats TD and committee member, thinks he would have a different approach if Fianna Fail were in opposition:
