'Final preparations are underway in Dundalk, Co. Louth ahead of the arrival of the US President later today'

Today has been described as a "great day for Ireland." That's according to the 'Biden4Ireland' organiser Paul Allen who was speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show ahead of President Joe Biden's visit to Co Louth today. According to Paul, the arrival of the 46th president of the United States is a "perfect opportunity" for people to have pride in their country.

Mr Allen who has previously worked on other presidential visits, believes that meetings which take place "behind the scenes" are often "essential" in terms of reuniting both America and Ireland. He added that for many reasons, in particular tourism, Joe Biden's visit will be a "terrific opportunity" for the country as a whole. "There's a terrific opportunity for councils and businesses across Ireland to exploit the Irish/American link," he explained.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has said he hopes the Assembly and Executive in Northern Ireland can be restored soon. President Biden gave the first speech of his trip to the island at Ulster University earlier this afternoon.

He said America stands with Northern Ireland and praised the Good Friday Agreement as something which changed the political gravity in the country. President Biden said the 25 year old deal can't be taken for granted.
