Wintry showers are forecasted overnight tonight.

Many areas across the Northern Sound region experienced snow fall over night and early this morning.

Cathal Nolan from Irelands Weather Channel says snow showers are possible through the afternoon as snow showers turn more in the way of sleet towards evening.

Wintry showers are forecasted overnight with some patches of freezing fog also possible.

A status yellow alert ice warning will be in place for the entire country from 7pm tonight until midday tomorrow.

The forecaster says the current cold spell is set to end in the next 24 to 36 hours with a mild weather outlook on the cards.
