Colleagues say the sudden passing of Cllr Damien O'Reilly (40) is a "massive blow for politics".

Tributes were paid to Co Meath Councillor Damien O'Reilly at the most recent Ballyjamesduff Municipal District meeting following his sudden death at the age of 40. The Dunboyne native was the current Cathaoirleach of the Ratoath Municipal District and Chairperson of the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board.

Cllr Shane P O'Reilly knew Damien on a personal level and said that his untimely death was a massive blow for politics. He added that his thoughts were with his fiancée Lisa, one-year-old daughter Carly, and his stepson Kyle.

The other councillors present at the meeting passed on their sympathies with the Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Philip Brady saying, Cllr Damien O'Reilly's death was a sad loss for the Fianna Fail party.
