There's deep shock within the community of Cootehill in Co Cavan following the deaths of two men in the Sligo Rally last Sunday.
Condolences are being sent to the family and friends of local man Gene McDonald who lost his life along with his friend Daire Maguire from Fermanagh.
Two separate investigations are underway following the crash, in which the men lost their lives as their car hit a wall.
Local Aontu Councillor Sarah O'Reilly has been paying tribute to Mr McDonald.
He was a very popular member of the community, he had a thriving a business and he was very well known. He was what you would describe as a very sound solid guy.
I knew Gene personally, he was my mechanic, I would just like to pass on my sympathises to his family, his friends, work colleagues and of course the motorsport rally community.
