'Devil in the detail' of new core funding model for Early Years Childcare sector

The "devil will be in the detail" of a new core funding model for the Early Years Childcare sector.

Children's Minister Roderic O'Gorman is finalising proposals to significantly reduce crèche fees and increase pay rates for those working in the sector.

Monaghan has the second lowest childcare costs nationwide, at an average of €620, while parents and guardians in Cavan face average costs of €733.

However, Anne Clarke, owner of 'Playaway Creche' in Cavan Town, says childcare providers have yet to see the contracts, which were due to be finalised last week.

She's given a "cautious welcome" to the new scheme and adds that childcare providers have been protesting for years for a new funding model for the sector.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Anne warned that those working in the sector haven't had a say in the core-funding model:
