Any downgrading of the midwife-led unit in Cavan General Hospital would be "limiting choices for expectant mothers", according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives

Any downgrading of the midwife-led unit in Cavan General Hospital would be "limiting choices for expectant mothers", according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The INMO had previously been assured by RCSI hospital group management that full consultation would take place before any decisions were made.

News of the closure of the unit has been met by concerns and questions locally.

The National Maternity Strategy makes a recommendation that midwife-led care be expanded.

David Miskell, INMO Industrial Relations Officer for the region, is calling on Health Minister Simon Harris to fund the strategy properly:
