Children in a residential service for children with have been observed to be comfortable and open in requesting their needs.
Drumgoan cottage in Co Monaghan received a Short Notice Announced inspection in July 2025.
The service provides residential service for male and female children under the age of 18 with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder and/or acquired brain injuries.
The HIQA visit was to assess its compliance with the Health Act 2007, as part of the inspection, inspectors spoke with residents and people who visit them, talk with staff and management, observe practice and daily life and review documents.
Eight regulations were reviewed, three regulations were found to be compliant, three were non-compliant, and two were deemed to be substantially compliant.
The ones found to be non-compliant were staffing, governance and management and health care.
The regulations found to be substantially compliant were risk management procedures and protection.
The inspector had the opportunity to meet with all three children residing in the centre on the day of the inspection, and observed that they were busy and active.
They were attending school, engaging in meaningful activities and keeping in contact with the important people in their lives.
