Heather Humphreys and Sean Kelly have both confirmed they want to be the country's next President.
They will compete to be Fine Gael's nomination after Mairead McGuiness had to withdraw on health grounds.
Last night, Virgin Media News indicated Heather Humpreys is on course to secure the nomination, reporting with 57 nominations available, Ms Humphreys has 38; MEP Kelly cannot reach the requisite 20 that is now required.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin says Fianna Fáil will outline its position on the presidency at the end of the month.
Dublin's Lord Mayor and Co Cavan native Ray McAdam says he will be backing Heather Humphreys all the way.
"I have a choice to make and I believe Heather Humphreys, her experience at Cabinet over 10 years, she was a fantastic TD for Cavan Monaghan and she's, she comes from the minority faith, she's from the border area. I think we talk about a lot about the shared island, I think Heather Humphreys embodies that."
