€125,000 announced for 'Clones Teen Haven'

The department secured Dormant Accounts funding this year to allow authorities to develop in the teenage specific spaces in consultation with teenagers themselves.

Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley has today announced €500,000 in funding for new recreational spaces for teenagers.

Monaghan County Council will receive €125,000 of this funding for the Clones Teen Haven project.

It is recognised that more play and recreation amenities, such as social ‘hang out’ spaces and multi use games areas (MUGAs), are required for teenagers due to the increase in population and lower number of facilities for them.

Fianna Fail's Robbie Gallagher welcomed today's funding announcement as "good news" for Clones Town.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator Robbie Gallagher described the Clones Teen Haven as a "safe space" for teenagers to hang out.

The application was put forward by members of the Ballybay-Clones MD.
