The aim of this is to help those in more rural locations, or who may have experienced disadvantage, better access to education.

€640,000 has been allocated in Cavan and Monaghan to address educational disadvantage.

This funding was allocated to the CMETB as part of The Mitigating Against Educational Disadvantage Fund (MAEDF) to help support the engagement or re-engagement of learners in the community.

It will be used to reduce barriers to participation by giving wider access to technology, equipment and materials for all learners.

Around 700 learners from Cavan and Monaghan received financial support to undertake their programme of study, and a total of 31 Cavan/Monaghan community projects received grants.

Cllr. Colm Carthy, Chairperson of CMETB welcomed the news stating the money will go towards the region’s most vulnerable learners, and deprived communities, to ensure a higher level of access to education, training and upskilling.
