Professor Sam McConkey says the Government must strengthen public health systems and learn to react quicker to future pandemics.

Professor Sam McConkey says there’s a confidence that the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic is behind us.

The Monaghan-native says data from the last week has shown that the Omicron wave has passed without significantly impacting ICU numbers.

However, the RCSI Professor told Shannonside Northern Sound that lifting restrictions doesn’t mean that the virus has gone away.

Meanwhile, a Cavan hotelier says there’s an excitement ahead of the Taoiseach’s address to the nation tonight.

Ross Mealiff from the Hotel Kilmore says that if they get the green light to return to normal from midnight tonight, it’ll be all systems go for the weekend.

Ross told The Joe Finnegan Show that wedding parties have already been on to him to discuss numbers.
