Counties Monaghan and Cavan recorded one of the largest increases in electric car registrations in the country last year, new figures show. The Society of the Irish Motor Industry this week released their official new vehicle registrations statistics for 2023.

Locally, Co Monaghan recorded an increase of 64.41% with 97 electric vehicles recorded in 2023 compared to 59 in 2022. Elsewhere, Co Cavan recorded an increase of 57.28 with 162 electric vehicles recorded last year compared to 103 the year previous.

The figures are contained in newly released data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) that shows EV registrations were up over 560 per cent when compared to those of 2019.
