Environmental group says proposed Cavan development is ignoring biodiversity emergency

The group says councillors voted to preserve the lough in the next County Development Plan, however that is still at a draft stage.

An environmental group says a proposed housing development in Cavan is ignoring Ireland's biodiversity emergency.

Gaeltech Sustainable Living is seeking to build 26 homes at Killymonney Lough in Cavan town, however it is being objected to by Friends of the Irish Environment.

The group says councillors voted to preserve the lough in the next County Development Plan, however that is still at a draft stage.

A decision on the plans is due next month, which Friends of the Irish Environment says must be delayed.

Tony Lowes, a director with Friends of the Irish Environment told Shannonside Northern Sound that we can no longer see housing and environmental issues as separate things.
