The government has rejected the NPHET advice to move every county to level five restrictions.
The cabinet decided not to accept the NPHET recommendation and will instead move the entire country to level three restrictions from midnight tomorrow until the 27th of October.
Policing of the existing restrictions will also be stepped up instead of the major jump into another lockdown.
It means there will be greater garda enforcement of the restrictions on movement county to county and other measures in place on businesses, restaurants and cafes.
There's fears though the move will create a rift between NPHET and the government and there's a lot of unease in government about how the last 24 hours have played out.
