A fault has developed at the Cootehill Water Treatment Plant in Co Cavan. As a result, water supply to the town and surrounding areas has been impacted.
Uisce Eireann says that crews are on the ground working to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible. In the meantime, an alternative water supply is available at Darley National School and customers are reminded to use their own clean and sanitised potable containers when taking water from the alternative supply.
Peter Gallagher, Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann has apologised for the inconvenience caused and is assuring local consumers that normal supply will return shortly. "We understand the inconvenience this issue is causing and are working to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible," he continued.
"We are also working to identify a significant leak in the town. We are asking the public to do what they can to conserve water during this time by turning off taps and checking for leaks in outside taps or unoccupied premises. If anyone notices a leak in the public network they should report it to Uisce Éireann via www.water.ie or by calling 1800 278 278.”
