The deadline for the people of Monaghan to make submissions about the abatement or waiver of rates on vacant commercial properties is today.
Elected members of a local authority may make a scheme providing for the abatement of rates in respect of vacant properties. Any such scheme is then approved at the annual council's budget meeting about the upcoming financial year.
Monaghan County Council is currently considering a rates abatement scheme for 2026 and invites the public to make written submissions on the matter specifically covering the potential effects of such a scheme on council services.
Yesterday, a new report from GeoDirectory showed the commercial property vacancy rate in Monaghan's stands at 14.3 per cent and 12.7 per cent in Cavan. Submissions must be received by today, Friday, 21st March by post or by email. More details can be found on the Monaghan County Council website.
