Five people under the age of 18 remain in custody this lunchtime following a major public order incident in Virginia.

The incident broke out around 7pm last night at a number of locations in the town.

An investigation is continuing into the alleged incident where three people were injured during the altercations.

A significant number of Gardai were swiftly on the scene of the incidents at both Lough Ramor and the Main Street of the town.
Between 15-20 members of An Garda Síochána from both Cavan and Bailieboro arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of the incidents. The Garda air support unit were also in attendance.
It’s understood Gardai overnight searched CCTV from nearby businesses.
Gardai say they are investigating a line of inquiry surrounding allegations of a knife being produced during the incident also.

A Garda source confirmed that three men required medical attention following this incidents that occurred at around 7pm and were taken to Cavan General Hospital.

All five arrested are being held in Garda stations in the county and they can be held for up to 24 hours.
It’s understood that all five live in Co Cavan and have done so for a number of years.
Cavan Gardai say they are actively monitoring social media following this incident to prevent misinformation being spread.
The local force issued a statement last month surrounding an incident in Cavan Town about the spread of misinformation and disinformation.
