Minister Niamh Smyth has welcomed the news that all HRT products and medicines are completely free of charge at participating pharmacies, once prescribed by a healthcare provider.
To avail of this support, individuals simply need to be registered under the Drugs Payment Scheme.
She described the move as a hugely significant step forward for women's health in Ireland," said Minister Smyth.
The local minister said access to HRT is not just about medication-it's about dignity, wellbeing, empowerment, and ensuring that cost is not a barrier to essential healthcare. Minister Smyth said this initiative represents real progress in recognising and responding to the healthcare needs of women.
The move comes amid growing calls for improved access to menopause-related supports. The Cavan Monaghan TD said the reality is, with rising costs and growing demand, it had been slipping out of reach for too many and this free initiative will change that.
