Councillors supported the plan this week.

Councillor Cathy Bennett raised the issue at the monthly Council meeting this week, highlighting the issue of period poverty.

Concerns were raised about the cost of the measure and whether it should be delayed to allow funding be set aside in next year's budget.

Fine Gael's David Maxwell said he supported the measure but asked for clarity on the cost.

However, acting Chief Executive Paul Clifford said it could be catered for within existing caretaking budgets across the county.
