Funding for the fire services in the Northern Sound region has been welcomed locally.
Today, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne announced €328.5 million Fire Services Capital Programme 2026-2030.
Cavan and Monaghan will benefit directly from the programme.
€1 million allocated for refurbishment works at Kingscourt Fire Station in Co. Cavan, and €850,000 has been allocated for works at Carrickmacross Fire Station in Co. Monaghan.
Minister Browne has also issued approval for Cavan Fire Services to purchase two new Fire Appliances and Monaghan Fire Services to purchase one new appliance.
Speaking to Northern Sound, local TD Brendan Smith said that "Our Fire Services are a critical component of our country's Emergency Services and ongoing investment in their infrastructure and equipment is vital. I commend the personnel in our Fire Services on their ongoing work throughout the year often in the most difficult of circumstances."
