Funding for conservation and heritage projects in the Northern Sound region have been welcomed locally.
Today, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Christopher O'Sullivan announced a total allocation of €662,000 for projects across Cavan and Monaghan.
The funding includes €317,000 under the Historic Structures Fund for Bawnboy Workhouse and the former Stuart’s Shop in Killeshandra, while a further €346,000 has been awarded under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme for works to a number of buildings including Coronea Church, St. Peter’s Church Templeport, Cavan Parish Church and the Church of Ireland in Killeshandra.
€164,432 has been approved for roof and structural repairs to the former Stuart’s Shop, in addition to €240,000 previously announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary.
A further €152,312 has been allocated for structural and masonry repairs at Bawnboy Workhouse, where roof works are already underway.
Speaking to Northern Sound, local TD Brendan Smith welcomed the announcement.
