Both men died on Sunday afternoon following a fatal collision during the sixth stage of the Sligo Rally.

The funeral arrangements have been announced of two local men who lost their lives during the Sligo Stages Rally on Sunday afternoon.

35-year-old Gene McDonald from Cootehill lost his life along with his friend, 46-year-old Daire Maguire from Lisnaskea in Co Fermanagh after their car hit a wall during the sixth stage.

The funeral mass of the late Daire Maguire will take place this Thursday morning.

The father-of-two will arrive at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Newtownbutler for 11 o'clock funeral mass with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Meanwhile, the funeral mass of Cootehill native Gene McDonald will take place at 12 noon on Friday afternoon at St. Mary's Middle Chapel, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
