Funeral of Dessie O'Kelly to take place today

Glowing tributes have been paid to the popular Carrigallen man.

The funeral is taking place today of Dessie O’Kelly who died in a collision earlier this week.

Glowing tributes have been paid to the popular Carrigallen man.

The 18-year-old died when the tractor he was a passenger in collided at Aghavilla, Carrigallen, on Tuesday afternoon at around 3 o'clock.

The male driver - also in his late teens - was taken to Cavan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

18-year-old Dessie was from Drumloona, just north of Carrigallen and was a student at Ballyhaise College.

The Co Cavan college said in a social media post that Dessie will be greatly missed in the college community, adding that our heartfelt condolences go out to Dessie’s family, friends and fellow students at this difficult time

Ongoing support for students is available through Ballyhaise College following the tragic news.

He was a former pupil of  Carrigallen Vocational School, who expressed their deep sadness at his death.

Parish priest Fr John McMahon says he was also a former altar server, had an outgoing personality, and was doing an agricultural course.

His funeral Mass will take place in St Mary's Church, Drumeela, today at 2 o'clock, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
