Gaelscoil Lorgan preparing to say good-bye to old school

"They all believed in Gaelscoil Lorgan, a special thanks to them - the families that started the school in 2008."

Gaelscoil Lorgan in Castleblayney is saying good-bye to its current home, after 18 years in the building.

The school opened in 2008 with 23 students and two teachers.

Now, the staff and students are preparing to move to new facilities, in order to accommodate the demand for places in the school.

The principal of the school, Múinteoir Michelle, has been teaching in the school since 2009.

Speaking to Northern Sound, she said she is looking forward to moving to the state-of-the-art facilities in the new school.

Muinteoir Michelle said that the Gaelscoil students of Castleblayney deserve the facilities.

She said: "Our pupils really deserve it. It is important to say, that the families that are currently with us will benefit, but the families that came to us in the very beginning- it is because of them that we are able to open this new school.

"They all believed in Gaelscoil Lorgan, a special thanks to them - the families that started the school in 2008.

"We've a lot of students travelling from all of mid-Monaghan. We have two school buses that arrive at the school every day. I probably feel like we've proven ourselves. It takes a while for a school to become established.

"We are the same as all other schools, but as Gaeilge," Muinteoir Michelle added.

Odhran McCreesh are Gerard O'Beagáin are both in Rang a Cuig in Gaelscoil Lorgan.

The boys are good friends, albeit from rival football clubs.

Speaking to Northern Sound, they made it clear what they're most looking forward to in the new school.

The lads explained: "We're looking forward to the new school, because it will have a football pitch with grass, and a basketball court.

"It's next to Paddy Green's, going out to Blackhill- there's a red barn style roof on it. The rooms are big, big windows, very modern," they added.
