Gardaí in Monaghan are urging people to be conscious of their car keys, following a slew of recent car thefts.
In these separate cases, homes have been broken into, car keys have been obtained and vehicles subsidised.
Gardaí are reminding people that it is important to remove car keys from the vehicle both in public and in private driveways.
Garda Tracy Donaghy of Carrickmacross Garda Station has this advice for people to protect their vehicles.
"Do not leave car keys in open view on a kitchen or hall table, on a windowsill or on a wall hook, particularly within reach of the front door as keys could be removed through the letterbox. Do not attach a tag to your key ring which shows your name and address and in relation to keyless entry cars it is recommended that the key card is kept in a secure wallet to protect against signal cloning. This is a process of duplicating a wireless signal of a key fob and using it to unlock and start a vehicle without having the genuine key."
