Heather Humphreys has been described as a "front runner" when it comes to replacing Mairead McGuiness in the Presidential Elections.
Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness has ruled herself out of the running to be President.
The former EU Commissioner had been the favourite to replace Michael D Higgins but pulled out of the race yesterday on health grounds after spending time in hospital last week.
Boyle native John Mulligan is a personal friend and former campaigns manager for Mairead McGuiness.
While Heather Humphreys has not publicly commented as of yet what her intentions are going forward, John said there is no question that Heather Humphreys is a front runner if Fine Gael can persuade her to run.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, he said: "There is no question that Heather Humphreys is a front runner if Fine Gael can persuade her to run. She is everything that Mairead is, she's decent, straight-talking, hard-working, very well liked and won't do damage to the peace process because she understands it better than anybody."
