High levels of commercial vacancy recorded locally

Cavan and Monaghan recorded between 12 and 14 percent of businesses premises unused.

The Shannonside Northern Region has recorded an average commercial vacancy rate of 15 percent as of the middle of this year.

The latest figures from Geodirectory found almost 1,400 commercial units were lying empty across the region.

Western counties continue to see the largest number of vacant properties with Roscommon and Leitrim recording levels over 16 percent.

Longford saw the next highest level of vacancy at 15.1 percent while Cavan and Monaghan recorded between 12 and 14 percent of businesses premises unused.

Nationally, almost 30 thousand commercial units were vacant in Ireland as of June if this year. Dara Keogh is the CEO of Geodirectory and says some counties are seeing some positive signs.
