The Continuity IRA has claimed it used a hoax device in the Cavan-Fermanagh border to divert Police attention from Enniskillen Police Station.

The dissident republican group claims it fired shots and an improvised explosive device at the PSNI barracks on Sunday.

In a call to the Northern Sound Newsroom using a recognised code word, the group said the action was carried out from across the river in the Fermanagh town on Sunday last.

It claims a hoax device had been placed on the Clones road in Newtownbutler to divert attention from the attack.

The PSNI says it is investigating the security alert and has appealed for anyone with information to get in contact.
