Holistic approach needed by local councils for more inclusive infrastructure

The appropriate pathways and public transport to properly support the visually impaired are not in many rural areas.

A more rounded approach needs to be taken by local councils when it comes to inclusive infrastructure.

That's the message from NCBI, who say that there are a number of areas in Cavan and other counties that don't have the appropriate pathways and public transport to properly support those who are dealing with sight loss.

At a recent meeting of the Bailieborough Cootehill MD there were calls for a path on the Kells Road as it's currently impacting the independence of two residents who are visually impaired.

Lorna Fitzpatrick, the Advocacy and engagement manager with NCBI says this is just one case, there are countless others in the region and there needs to be a holistic approach to planning by local authorities:
