Announcement from the Agriculture Minister welcomed locally.

Support by the Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue, for a motion
on farming and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) adopted by the
Ballybay/Clones Municipal District has been welcomed by members.

Councillor Seamus Coyle told a recent meeting of the municipal district that
Ireland's largest indigenous industry - agriculture - was responsible for
40% of the country's exports last year.

He added that regionally, 20% of people were employed in the agri food and
business sectors.

Councillor Coyle also pointed out that while the Climate Action Plan was very
important, it was imperative that it did not 'dilute' CAP funding to rural
areas like Monaghan.
