Increase in farm incomes cause for 'cautious optimism'

New figures show the average family farm income rose by 87% year on year between 2023 and 2024 to €36,000.

The increase in farm incomes locally last year should be cause for cautious optimism.

That's according to Senior Research Officer with Teagasc, Emma Dillon.

New figures show the average family farm income rose by 87% year on year between 2023 and 2024 to €36,000.

Dairy farms saw the largest average increase, jumping 113% to €108,189.

Senior Research Officer with Teagasc, Emma Dillon says although the rise is welcome, work still needs to be done to keep young farmers in the sector.
