Increase in number of people drink or drug driving in Cavan and Monaghan

There's been a 22 per cent increase in the number of people drink or drug driving in Cavan and Monaghan.

Garda crime statistics released by the CSO show there were 207 recorded offences in the first six months of this year, compared to 169 in 2021.

Drink-driving remains the more common offence, with 142 drink driving incidents reported in the Cavan-Monaghan division up to June, at the same time in 2021 it was 114.

Drug driving offences are up 18 per cent, from 55 in the first half of 2021, up by 10 to 65 in 2022.
