The Special Criminal Court has extended an order allowing the anonymity of the defendant known as YZ, whom the courts have already found inflicted most of businessman Kevin Lunney’s serious injuries during his kidnap ordeal, to remain in place.
The order was due to expire at midnight but the man’s lawyers successfully applied for an extension until next week.
It affords them the opportunity to attend the High Court seeking an order that YZ should remain anonymous until other matters before the courts are dealt with.
Meanwhile, three weeks ago, YZ, along with 40 year old Alan O’Brien and 27 year old Darren Redmond, both with addresses in East Wall Dublin 3, were found guilty of abducting the Co Fermanagh businessman and assaulting him outside Ballinagh in Co Cavan in September 2019.
Their sentence hearing will take place at the Central Criminal Court on Monday next the 20th of Decemeber.
