Black paint was thrown at the Aontú poster on Thomas Ashe Street in Cavan Town on Wednesday, 6th March.

Gardaí in Cavan are investigating an incident of criminal damage to a referendum  poster.

Black paint was thrown at the Aontú poster on Thomas Ashe Street in Cavan Town on Wednesday, 6th March.

A member of the Aontú party in Cavan reported it to gardaí. Tinko Tinev, Aontú candidate for the Cavan-Belturbet local elections condemned the act of vandalism. He said "Those who targeted the poster need to be charged in order to avoid repeat occurrances in forthcoming local and European elections. Gardaí say their investigations "are ongoing".
