Goats have been used at a graveyard in Crosshaven, Co Cork, to eat the overgrowth around gravestones.

A Carrickmacross councillor has called on the Council to get "imaginative" and use goats to clean up a local famine graveyard.

Sinn Féin councillor Noel Keelan told a recent Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD meeting that more needs to be done to protect the graveyard, known as Bully's Acre.

He informed the meeting that goats have been used at a graveyard in Crosshaven, Co Cork, to eat the overgrowth around gravestones.

Councillor Keelan says the weeds can be as high as three feet at Bully's Acre and adds that using goats is an environmentally friendly way to deal with this issue.

Speaking to Northern Sound, the Sinn Féin councillor said he will liaise with the community and Tidy Towns group on his proposal:
