A motion was raised in the recent meeting of Monaghan County Council relating to paid leave for people who suffer miscarriages.
The motion called on the Ministers for Finance, Health, and Social Protection to introduce 6 weeks paid leave for mothers who experience miscarriage/pregnancy loss before 24 weeks pregnancy.
They want to see the payment be available through Department of Social protection and issued in a similar way to maternity leave.
Niamh McCooey raised the motion, which was seconded by Colm Carthy.
Cllr Carthy spoke to Northern Sound about the issue, saying that women who suffer a miscarriage are often forced to use sick leave or go on unpaid leave.
He said it's devastating for people who suffer a miscarriage.
