Local Calls for reinstatement of the bereavement grant

A local councillor has called on the reinstatement of the cancelled bereavement grant.

Cavan Councillor s calling on the Social protection Minister Heather Humphreys to reinstate the payment. He wants to see the payment available again following the payment cancelled 10 years ago due to financial pressures at the time within government.

Cllr O'Reilly believes it’s time for the payment again to be available and says even though there are payments in place at present these are means tested. The Mullagh native is also a funeral director and he says that he has seen lots of people benefiting from the financial support when a family bereavement occurred.

Cllr Shane P O'Reilly wants to see the payment announced by the social protection minister and he feels now is the time to make this announcement.
