A local councillor has called on the government to help farmers increase security around their farms.
Cllr Damien Brady brought a motion to Cavan County Council to call on the local authority to write to the Minister for Agriculture to increase the TAMS payment.
He said a growing increase of farm thefts was a real concern and more was needed to allow farmers to be able to sleep with comfort at night.
He said that criminals are targeting livestock, diesel and machinery and more funding would allow farmers to obtain the likes of CCTV and alarms etc.
Cllr Brady says the days of leaving gates unsecured was over.
