A Cavan councillor has called for Lavey to be listed as a village. Fine Gael's Val Smith warned that Lavey misses out on Town

A Cavan councillor has called for Lavey to be listed as a village.

Fine Gael's Val Smith warned that Lavey misses out on Town and Village Renewal funding as a result of not being recognised as a village.

Councillor Smith says Lavey should be deemed as such due to its proximity to the N3, and its amenities such as pubs, restaurants, shops, and a B and B.

Val Smith was informed at a recent Bailieborough-Cootehill MD meeting that "there needs to be a service in the area, which is mainly sewerage, to get a village status".

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, the Fine Gael Councillor said Lavey is "up-and-coming" and deserves village status:
