Local councillor hits out at An Post for refusal to place post box in Annayalla

Cathy Bennett expressed bemusement because she is "just looking for a post box, not a post office".

A Monaghan councillor has hit out at An Post for its refusal to place a post box in Annayalla.

Residents currently have to travel to Clontibret or Castleblayney to access a post box.

An Post says it will "continue to monitor the situation in terms of volume and usage of the existing facilities in the area" and will "be back in touch if there is any change".

But at a recent Monaghan County Council meeting, Sinn Féin's Cathy Bennett said she was "disappointed" a post box has yet to be installed in Annayalla.

She added "we're just looking for a post box, not a post office" and passed a motion calling on the County Council to send a letter to An Post expressing its "annoyance".
