A local councilor has expressed disappointment that many wheelchair users can't use a public disabled toilet in Carrickmacross.

The toilet is in a public building on Market Square in the town, and councilor Colm Carthy says that it was not designed to the Wheelchair Association requirement making it unsuitable for some users with the placement of the bowl not centered in the room, and no changing table.

The executive told him at a recent Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD meeting that this was because the building was listed, however, he says he is disappointed with that answer as he raised the issue at design stages prior to construction.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound councilor Carthy said he is hopeful after raising the issue that all public toilets in the future to be designed to the appropriate standard for wheelchair users:
