Members of the IFA say the supply chain, in which the primary producer is key, is broken.

Local egg producers took part in a protest outside Annalitten Eggs in Castleblayney earlier today.

The business is one of Ireland's leading egg Producers and Packers and is run by the O'Reilly family.

Monaghan's Frank Brady, who is the IFA's Ulster-North Leinster Chairman, joined protestors.

He says Annalitten Eggs received a price increase for their eggs but failed to pass that increase onto its farm suppliers.

Mr Brady believes farmers need an increase of 2 cent per egg in order to cover rising costs and keep their businesses running.
