Ireland could drop from red to orange under the EU's traffic light system as soon as next week, according to an infectious diseases expert.
New rules adopting came into force here at midnight -- allowing some further exceptions to quarantine rules.
People travelling for "imperative" family or business reasons won't now have to self-isolate.
