Magheracloone native Philip Kelly was elected onto the National Executive of Fine Gael at the weekend.

Philip Kelly from Magheracloone was elected onto the National Executive of the Fine Gael party at its Ard Fheis in Galway on Saturday. With over 40 years' experience of politics at a local level, Mr Kelly is currently the Chairman of Cavan/Monaghan Fine Gael amongst his many other roles. Speaking to Northern Sound in relation to his new role, Mr Kelly said he intends to be a "voice" for the people of Cavan and Monaghan at a national level.

The Magheracloone man described the turnout at Saturday's Ard Fheis as "phenomenal" adding that his vast experience in local politics and "teamwork" helped him over the finish line. When asked about the future of the Fine Gael party, Mr Kelly said that the election of a "vibrant" and "capable" Simon Harris as Taoiseach and the appointment of local Minister Heather Humphreys as Deputy Leader will give a "great lift" to the people of Cavan and Monaghan.
