An event in memory of a local man is taking place in Ballinagh this weekend.
The annual Sam Bennett memorial run is hosted by the Ballinagh District Vintage Club.
Sam was a well-respected man in the community, and served as the club's first president.
The run has been taking place for nearly 20 years, and has raised over €100,000 for various charities throughout the years.
This year the money raised will go towards Rang Carraig, the special education class in Carrigallen school.
Registration is in the Ballinagh Community Centre from 10:30am until 12pm with the run starting at 12pm sharp.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Philip McGauran spoke about about why Carrigallen was the chosen as this years beneficiary.
"We have a man here now, he's 25 years of age, who has Down Syndrome and he got great schooling all along. In Carrigallen, they taught him how to shop, and he was as well known in the town of Carrigallen, as he was in the house here. They had other children similar to Matthew and they were all treated the same way and if Matthew's about in Carrigallen or anywhere now, he's better known than I am."
"The funds now are going towards the special education class there, it's called Rang Carriag and it's going for special equipment for that class."
