It was announced today that a number of projects across the Northern Sound region will be awarded funding under the 2025 Community Monuments Fund. €132,084 in funding was allocated to Co Cavan whilst Co Monaghan received €45,239 in funding. Under the scheme, €100,000 went to Moneygashel in West Cavan, while €32,084 went to Enagh Widmill & Lime Kiln.
Elsewhere in Co Monaghan, €30,000 was allocated to St Patrick's Well, Clonfad and Killevan Abbey received €15,239. Fianna Fáil Councillor, John Paul Feeley has warmly welcomed the allocation of € 100,000 to complete conservation works to Moneygashel Cashel which is located not far from Cavan Burren Park.
Cllr Feeley told Northern Sound; "Moneygashel in a magnificent example of stone ring forts constructed around 1500 years ago. It has been extremely well preserved over the centuries. This work will allow for further protection works to preserve the site for generations to come. Securing funding such as this does not happen easily. I know the great work done by Annmarie Ward, Heritage Officer, Cavan County Council and her colleagues as well as of Grainne O’Connor, Geopark Manager and her team. They are very proud of and committed to sites such as this and will now take the lead on getting this work done."
