Local projects to benefit from investment of over €450,000

A total of 212 projects nationwide have been supported under this fund today.

Minister for Rural Affairs Dara Calleary has confirmed that seven local clubs and groups will benefit from investment of €463,590 from today’s announcement under the Community Recognition Fund.

In Co Monaghan, the local authority has received over €69,000 to provide a basketball court and equipment for Ballybay.

In Carrickmacross over €82,000 has been allocated to Monaghan County Council to refurbish the MUGA in Cloughvalley. While Killygoan Playpark in Monaghan Town is also set for works with €67,785 awarded for upgrades.

Meanwhile, Denn GFC in Co Cavan will receive over €94,000 to install an all-weather pitch. Ballinagh Leisure and Sports Complex is set to get €50,000 to upgrade their Astro Turf facilities.

Killinkere Leisure Centre and Mullagh Community Sports Centre have also been allocated €50,000 each for refurbishment works.

Minister Niamh Smyth welcomed today's announcement, speaking to Northern Sound she said; "212 projects nationwide have been supported under this fund today. This announcement shows the substantial continued investment, through the Community Recognition Fund, in our sports clubs, community centres, parks, recreational trails and play and sensory spaces which are a vital lifeline in our communities doing great work.

"I want to congratulate all local groups and clubs on their successful applications and take this opportunity to thank them for their ongoing work in their respective communities across Cavan and Monaghan."

Deputy Brendan Smith congratulated all the applicants on todays news. "I compliment the successful applicants and this funding will assist in the provision of new and enhanced facilities benefitting local communities across recreation and sporting activities. "Government funding is essential in supporting local organisations and local authorities in providing a wide range of community facilities throughout rural parishes, towns and villages.

"In recent years there has been a very substantial investment in community facilities," stated Brendan Smith TD.
