According to Ms Moynagh, it's important for students to be offered the best opportunities possible when leaving the Holy Family School in Cootehill.

A local school principal has outlined her plans to expand on the opportunities available for students with additional needs across Cavan and Monaghan. Rachel Moynagh is Principal of the Hoy Family School in Cootehill which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Speaking to Northern Sound, Ms Moynagh said it's important for the school to "keep improving" and "building on" from the successful foundations that are already in place.

Ms Moynagh revealed that one of her main goals over the next number of years is to focus on what is available to students at the age of 18 who are leaving the school. She added that it's of vital importance to offer the best opportunities possible, whether that be through HSE placement, employment or third level education.

"We are always looking to improve on what we already have," explained Ms Moynagh. "At the minute we have junior cycle level but we don’t have anything yet at senior level so we are looking at how we can improve on that. We’re also looking at where our pupils can move onto when they’re leaving here at the age of 18. All pupils will get HSE placements but we’re looking to see if there is anything else out there for them in terms of employment or third level education. It’s always important to keep improving and to keep building on the fantastic foundations that we already have in place."
