A local students nurse says that a ‘clap on the back’ won’t pay the bills. This comes following a vote in the Dáil

A local students nurse says that a ‘clap on the back’ won’t pay the bills.

This comes following a vote in the Dáil last night, which saw the Government vote against an opposition bill to reinstate payment to those on placement during the pandemic.

Michaela Faye is a final year psychiatric nurse from Bailieborough and she says all they want is a living wage as they can’t work their part-time jobs while on the frontline.

She says last night’s vote is hugely disheartening and working 35 hour weeks for no pay is not feasible.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound today Michaela said that the announcement of PUP payments isn’t good enough:
